Heriberto Acevedo Soto |
About the ArtistEver since a child I always like traveling and drawing. I grew up drawing anime and cartoons. The drawings that I did the most was from Dragon Ball Z. The anime-cartoon was my first inspiration to draw. Later in life during middle school I was in an art class where I started to learn how to draw cartoon portraits. However, even though I enjoy every drawing I did, I grew out of it when I became an adult. It was not until I was in the U.S. Army were, I started to draw again. During the time in servicethere were moments where drawing help me go through the rough times, and drawing became part of my life once again. As an adult I enjoyed traveling and taking pictures of every historical place during my traveling experiences. As, an artist I became more passion after learning to sketched urban sketching in this course. I became a more constant as an artist and started to use lots of watercolor instead of just pencil. I started sketching places I visit with my family instead of taking pictures.I enjoy what I had learned and developed through my time in the urban sketching course.

Reflections
During the time in this course I had grown as an artist. Urban sketching taught me the value in place in a way that I did not know it existed. I have learned to use different techniques such as; water coloring and ink sketching. This semester I develop many skills that I didnot know they even existed. One of them was to know what the vanishing point is in a sketch or the horizontal line, this technique really helps me understand were to start or locate parts of my drawing.
Petroleum Delivery Operations |
Urban Sketch
|
This sketch was done in Williamsville NY. The sketch was created with pencils. This sketch, I made during delivery at workin a gas station. The sketch shows the operation when fuel delivery takes place in a gas station. The story behind this sketch, is that no matter the environment weather conditions: whether it is cold, warm, raining or snowing, employees must be out working. This sketch also, shows the fundamentals in the type of weather environment that a gas truck driver has to work in.
The border of U.S. and Canada |
Urban Sketch
|
This sketch was taken at the Whirlpool park in Niagara Falls NY. This sketch shows the bridge that connects both countries as a symbol of alliance. At the present time we see some building and lots of tree, but this can change in the future as population increases. A year from now this sketch can be drawn again in the same location and will show a difference in timeline. It was a great location to see the Niagara river between the two-country symbolizing the unity between the two.
The Beauty of Time |
Urban Sketch
|
This was sketched in the Devil’s hole Park in Niagara Falls NY. The story behind this sketch shows us the antiquity of the park. This building was built in stones and not built its structure like in the present time. We see in the sketch the building under renovation with the construction netting around the building and the tree. This shows how antique buildings get renewed from time to time to preserve the history behind human imagination.
Home Sweet Home |
Urban Sketch,
|
This sketch was taken in Niagara Falls, NY. The story behind this sketch is my first house. It shows the richness of the neighborhood and the story of a family’s home. This would be a history sketch for my family, as it will one day be a different house to be called home. Also, sketching the home were the family started to live and keep the drawing to future generation would create a historic memory for the family line. When looking at this sketch it is like seen many generations of different families raising their kids and living their lives full of memories in this house. A house without a family will only show an emptiness to the places but the people behind the home will enrich the structures purpose.
Urban Sketching Kit
I use different types of kit. One of the kits I carry with me at all times includes pencils, ink and watercolor. Also, I carry a mixed media sketch book that is watercolor resistant. The other is just and ordinary sketch book. When sketching I used many techniques. However, the techniques I uses the most are contour lines, scumbling, stippling and hatching. Most of my sketches were made in pencil. However, now after this course I use a lot of watercolor. The techniques I use are; flat washes, glazing, wet on dry, and dry on wet.
