FAA 305: Urban Sketching Exhibition

About the ArtistI am a senior at Niagara University and I am originally from NYC. I haven’t had any previous experiences with art so this semester was an interesting experience that I really enjoyed and
needed! My preferred mediums include watercolor and colored pencils! ReflectionsThis entire semester has been a learning experience. Being able to start off with just graphite and making our way up to pen and then watercolor was super interesting. Learning all the really interesting techniques using pencil first then being able to later apply them before using watercolor was amazing. I really loved learning different methods and seeing the different tricks that could be applied in art was fascinating! Although urban sketching was initially a little rough because I didn’t find enjoyment in just sketching various buildings, later on in the semester we progressed into including watercolor and I absolutely fell in love. I felt as if the colors really brought everything together. In all, I really enjoyed being able to partake in this course and I feel like it was much needed to be able to step outside and really admire everything around me.

The Roosevelt Home |
Urban Sketch
|
I wanted to include my first sketch I did for this course because it did have some sentimental meaning to me as this is the house I was staying in on my senior year at Niagara University. It is located on campus and it is a cute little home that holds a lot of sentimental memories for me and my roommates.
From My Perspective |
Urban Sketch
|
This is one of my favorite sketches because of the memory it holds and because it was a sketch that I was actually very proud of. I personally would love to go back in and straighten out a majority of the sketch but as someone who recently started sketching and drawing I was very proud of how this came out.
Buffalo City |
Urban Sketch
|
I really enjoyed sketching out the City Hall building located in Buffalo. I love the city life and this building reminded me of the many buildings in NYC. I really love the Buffalo area and all the diversity in the neighborhoods, I thought it would be nice to include something in my art book that reminded me of the city in upstate NY.

Photo Sketch,

This sketch is of my parents home in Long Island NY. I really enjoyed being able to sketch this as well because this is where I grew up for a big part of my life. Now that Iam graduating university and entering Graduate school, Ifeel as if I had already lived that course of life and will no longer be returning back home and will now make a new home for myself.
Urban Sketching Kit
In my personal kit I always included a graphite pencil, a black pen, and my watercolor kit. I really enjoyed using the watercolor brush pen and thought that it was able to create beautiful calligraphy. In the future I would like to replace the graphite pencil with an erasable red or blue pencil in order to sketch out guidelines for myself in my future sketches. I would also keep the watercolor palletwith me as well!
