Reflections on Urban Sketching
Throughout the class, I have learned new perspectives on art and urban sketching. I have discovered new techniques or approaches to capturing the world around me, such as using different materials or experimenting with composition and perspective. I have also gained a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of urban environments, and the importance of documenting them through art.
In terms of developing sketching skills, I have practiced sketching on location. I have experimented with different techniques for capturing the essence of a place, such as using loose lines and washes to create a sense of movement and spontaneity. I have also improved my observational skills, learning to see and capture the details that make a place unique.
Urban sketching can be a rewarding and challenging practice. It requires a willingness to embrace imperfection and uncertainty, and to be open to the unexpected. I have faced challenges such as inclement weather, distracting crowds, or unexpected changes to the surroundings. However, these challenges can also be opportunities to grow and learn as an artist.
Overall, urban sketching is a valuable practice that can help us to develop our skills and connect with the world around us. By capturing the essence of a place through art, artists can create a lasting record of their experiences, and share their unique perspective with others.

My First Urban Sketch – Glyn Hall
This sketch was my first urban sketch on the location, I was stressed how it will turn out especially because of sketching it with gel pen. But it is one of my favorite sketches now. Glyn Hall is one of my favorite buildings in our university campus and I used to have some of classes in there for my first semester.
Cozy House
I did this sketch during the winter break 2022, in Maryland, Baltimore. I sketched it while I was walking with my cousin in a sunny morning and the weather was so pleasant. We listened to music and talked and I did a quick pencil sketch of my aunt’s neighborhood house. Not to forget, Baltimore is really beautiful and I liked it very much.
