About the ArtistI am a Hospitality and tourism major with a concentration in food and beverage management. I like to hang out with my friends and watch my favorite shows when I’m not busy with classes. I am from Maryland and
have an older sister and an adorable dog. I love animals, baking and drawing. I took art classes throughout middle school and high school and have learned that I really enjoy sketching and using pencils and colored pencils. I have grown to appreciate watercolor as I have become more efficient in the medium. I do like painting but not as much as drawing and sketching and adding details and shading. |
Reflections on Urban SketchingWhen I started this class I originally took it because I like sketching. I didn’t really know what urban sketching was or anything about it. I just thought it was a sketching class. I then learned what urban sketching is and how cool it is. I learned what it is and how important community is in it and how it isn’t just sketching it is painting too. I definitely improved my skills in sketching a subject in person rather than from a photo. I also became better with pens and watercolors. I also learned how important it is to be prepared for the weather when sketching outside and in the cold. Just overall being prepared because you never know how the weather is going to change when you are out there for an hour plus.

Sketching on Location |
Seton Laundry Day
This is a pencil sketch of the laundry room in my building (Seton Hall). I was doing laundry and had to draw something for class and I decided to hangout in the laundry room and do a sketch. We all use this space and I don’t think anybody really looks around at all the details when we are doing laundry or waiting for it to be done.
Just Some Art Stuff
This is a pen sketch of the Niagara University art museum. This was one of my first pen sketches and I’m pretty happy with it. I used pencils to do the doors and shading and some trees in the background that are supposed to be kind of out of focus to the rest of the drawing. Anyone who lives in Seton Hall walks past this building at least two times a day and a lot of people probably don’t look at the marbling and the tiles and the
fact that there is a window and that this is the door that actually goes to the art studio.

Backyard Easter Parties
This is the shed in my backyard at home. I sketched this on Easter morning and I painted it with watercolor the following week. It was gorgeous outside and there was a morning dove sitting on top of the taller shed that my dog was barking at which brought my attention to the sheds and how cool they looked. I actually got a little sunburn on my shoulder while drawing this because the sun was behind me and it was very strong

Sunsets in Seton
This is the view outside of my dorm window. I really wanted to do a sunset painting with watercolor and I’m really happy I was able to do this. My dorm room has an amazing view of the west side of campus and the sunsets so this was my inspiration for that week's journal. Sadly I was not able to do the sunset part based off of an actual sunset because the week I did this the weather was so gross and rainy but the buildings and trees are very accurate to my view minus a couple of buildings. I really just wanted to focus on the skyline and not worry too much about the foreground. Overall I’m quite happy with this painting.
Urban Sketching Kit
I like to have a ruler and my pencils and pens with me when I go to sketch. I can always add color and extra details later but I try to do the big things in person in front of it. Depending on the weather I will bring gloves and hand warmers. I also have this color pencil container that holds many colored pencils and I could take it with me but it is kind of bulky. I did not include it in the photo because it is not a consistent part of my kit.
