About the ArtistI have loved drawing since I was very young. So my mom used to make a book of my paintings since I was four years old. I liked to observe and express things because I was good at observing. Therefore, I studied at
a professional academy for about two years in high school and studied in the Department of Crafts in college (before I majored in English literature). But I haven't painted much in the past two years. So, I tried to improve my sketch skills through this class. Also, I removed the pressure that I have felt while drawing so far and focused on the process. |
Reflections on Urban SketchingThrough the Urban sketching class, I was able to regain the pleasure of drawing. While attending an art academy when I was younger, I was obsessed with the feeling that I should be drawing well or drawing according to a set frame. And my paintings were always evaluated by someone. However, through this class, I was able to look into myself in the process of drawing and focus on my emotions. As I observed beautiful landscapes and buildings in detail, I felt at peace in the process. In addition, I learned more about various pen, pencil, and watercolor techniques. It was a completely new experience for me to express my perspectives using various techniques.

Sketching on Location |
The O’shea hall and trees
I drew this picture sitting on a bench behind O'Shea Hall. The weather was so nice that day, so the scenery was so beautiful and I decided to draw it. When I drew this picture, I focused on the shapes and shadows of the leaves. It was very difficult to express the shadows on the building. In Particular, there are many large, straight-line buildings like O'Shea Hall, and I think they are difficult to sketch.
Christmas tree in the Gallagher hall
I drew this in the Gallagher hall because I liked the color of the tree and the purple pillars and chairs. Also, there are many different colors so I thought it would be an adequate place to use the watercolors. As the weather gets colder, I feel winter approaching. When I saw the Christmas tree in Gallagher Hall, I felt that the end of the year was approaching. It’s been more than 2 months since I came to this school. So I felt that time went really fast and that I needed to enjoy and concentrate on my surroundings and circumstances. So this sketch is really important to me because I can memorize this place and the memories with it.
Urban Sketching Kit
I personally like drawing with a pencil. This is because I can express complex and detailed expressions and draw natural lines and shades. But my personal favorite technique is various watercolor techniques. This is because I think it is very beautiful to see various colors spreading and mixing.
