About the ArtistHi, my name is Nia. I am a Junior, soon-to-be senior here at Niagara University. I major in Communication and Minor in Psychology and ASL. I love singing, playing the piano, and anything that has to do with music. Although I prefer music I also dabble in sketching, it's another thing that brings me great joy.

Reflections on Urban Sketching have learned quite a bit throughout this semester. I’ve learned that I’ve got a lot to learn to better my skill but overall I impressed myself every week. I was surprised that everything that I deemed to be a challenge ended up being just a small obstacle on the road to my success. I was very excited to learn the different techniques that could be used with the different supplies. With the help of these new tools, I gained more respect for Urban sketching.

Sketching on Location |
Lazy Limabean
This sketch is one of my earlier sketches which I didn’t know much but I believe it went quite well. This was the week where we had to draw people. I drew my roommate and he said he was going to make it challenging for me so he crossed his legs. Other than that it tells the story of my roommate sitting in the living room of our apartment after a long day.
Bills on Hertel
This was one of the latest weeks of the semester, where we had the day to take the chance to look up an area of our choosing and draw it. I chose a popular street in Buffalo, where I live. Although I didn’t draw this on location I felt like I thrived off that. There were fewer distractions and I was able to concentrate more and capture a part of my life in one image, a story of a small portion of a street that I grew up on
BPB
This is also one of my latest artworks where we had the challenge of using watercolor to bring our sketches to life. I drew this on the inside of Gally MPR. I feel like this sketch is more vibrant with only two bright colors it creates a more singular look. Focusing on only the bright objects rather than the other objects that are black, white, and grey. It’s as if the objects are bleeding from black and white into color on the page
Just a Faction
This was one of my first pieces and my second favorite drawing purely because of the clean lines. I drew this in the kitchen of my apartment. At first, I couldn't quite understand what I liked about this sketch more than the others I’d drawn. Then I realized the kitchen is one of my favorite places in my apartment because it's a place where me and my roommates gather to eat, and talk about our day and just life. The fact that you can only see a piece of the kitchen signifies the fraction of my life I have presented to the world
