About the ArtistI am a Freshman at Niagara University majoring in Biology. I dorm at Niagara University but do live locally. I love the school Niagara because of its inclusivity and how many different classes are available to take. I'm not sure what I want my career to be yet but I'm going in the direction of something science. I have two dogs at home that are my favorite things in this world. I have worked at Starbucks for the past two years and love it so much.

Reflections on Urban Sketching
During this class I have learned a lot on how to sketch using watercolor. I have also learned that I really enjoy sketching with a pen and brush pen. I learned a lot about foreground, middle ground and background. Also that it is okay to not completely finish your sketch on site and take it home to finish it there. During this semester I have definitely improved on my skills in the way of using new techniques, shading, lighter lines, and not worrying about it being perfect. This class was really good for me since all of my other classes were stressful so I would look forward when I would do each assignment each week since it was so relaxing to me and I genuinely enjoyed sketching.
Eating and Relaxing
This was my first sketch that I did for this class and I was actually really proud of it since I got most of the dimensions of the building correctly and details. The biggest challenge was all the tables and chairs that I didn't think about until after I had already completed the building. You can tell I did not add much detail to the chairs which I wish I would have done. This sketch was done outside of the dining commons when I was still warm out during the sunset looking at the Leary Theater entrance. Its crazy to think of how different my life was when I made this sketch and how I had different friends than the ones I have now and I was living in a
completely different room.
completely different room.
Early Morning Studying
This was one of the sketches we did while learning how to sketch in pen. The challenge for this sketch was that I didn't know how to shade the white or clear areas correctly so I just drew lines which I wish I didn’t. Now I have learned that it is okay to have white space since I can pull the piece all together. This was done in the mini library in Golisano before my 10 am Biology class while my friend who was studying for a test. During this semester we would go here before class to try and wake ourselves up before our boring class and be able to chat and have a small breakfast before class. This drawing made me start to really enjoy sketching with pen since I was really happy with how this turned out since it looks a lot like what I was trying to draw.
Home
This is a sketch of my house that I did over thanksgiving break. I wish I would have centered the sketch more so I would have been able to do my whole house. During this I was in my warm car listening to my favorite music while I sketched out my house in pen. I took a lot of time on that one since I really wanted it to look as perfect as possible compared to my house. The challenge for this was to try and get the right color for my house but unfortunately I was limited to only the colors I had in my palette and mixing the colors was challenging. I also like how I did the bubble like background which was inspired by one of the urban sketchers I studied.
Tour of Italy
This was done on the last week of sketches during our zoom class. I really enjoyed being able to sketch as a group and highly recommend it for the next time this class is taught since it is relaxing and then you get to see how everyone else did at the end of the zoom. When we were on zoom I was in my room and my roommate was sleeping but luckily I had my headphones on so I was able to blast my music and just focus on my sketch. The challenges were the roof angles and the buildings in the background being too big compared to the actual photo. I really like how I did the water and the sky since I did wet on dry technique. Lastly I like how I made it almost look like a cartoon and i'm glad I made it more defined with my fine tip marker. (Virtual Sketch)
Urban Sketching Kit
So, my preferred tool was just a basic ballpoint pen since it was so smooth to draw with and relaxing. I also Included my brush pen since this is daily similar to a ballpoint pen but can create thicker and more textured lines. The brush pen is included because I enjoyed including this in my watercolors when we first began how to use watercolors. Obviously watercolor is included since this was the way I would add color to my sketches. I really enjoyed using the technique wet on dry watercolor for the sky and water areas since it always made a really cool design. When I get more into urban sketching I hope I can add colored pencils, paint pens and more color options into my kit. I also added a basic pencil since for most of my water color sketches would be first made with this. Lastly I added my thinpoint markers since I would use these for my watercolor paintings as well to add small details at the end.
